5 Tips on How to Stay Vegan this Summer
With Summer just around the corner, I thought I could give you some tips on how to stay vegan during the next couple months. In fact, I personally think it's easiest to be vegan in the summer time because of all the fresh fruits and veggies available!
When you choose to follow a plant-based vegan lifestyle, you are choosing to avoid the harming of animals, you are choosing to improve your health, and you are choosing to combat climate change. That's a lot of important reasons why going vegan is awesome! So let's make this summer a time to really learn how to stay committed and even inspire others to live this way as well. So here are some tips!
Don't Keep Animal Products in the House
So the idea here is that from the start, try to get the whole household to go vegan. I know this may be hard for some, but give it a try. If there's animal products at your fingertips, it'll be easier to reach for those without even thinking. Instead, if you have a wide array of fruits, veggies, nuts and vegan snacks available, then you'll more likely to eat those. Make sure to prep (wash, cut, ect) your snacks in advance as well!
Go to the Farmer's Market
Tis the season for fresh produce! This makes being a vegan easy! Go to your local farmers market every week or bi weekly to stock up on a ton of fruits and vegetables. They will be cheaper because it's in season and there wont be as many pesticides used most likely. Not only will it be cheaper, but you'll be able to purchase local goods which helps the environment (less emissions used for transportation) and local community as well.
Bring Vegan Dishes to Cook-outs
Summer Cook-outs are where many might give in. Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad. I have good news... there are vegan options for all the above! Make sure to pack your own pack of vegan burgers or dogs. You can even offer them to others and they can give them a try. You can always bring a vegan dish as well, like cold quinoa salad or hummus and veggies.. yum! Also, of course, load up on that fresh fruit!
Keep your Freezer Stocked with Frozen Bananas
Nice cream (banana ice cream) is the perfect summer snack when its hot out. Make sure to peel and freeze a bunch of ripe bananas. Pull them out when you are craving a sweet treat. You can blend them with a little bit of almond milk (or any milk alternative) and any flavor you are feeling. I love banana/peanut butter smoothies, banana/pineapple/kale/passion fruit smoothies, or making pitaya or acai bowls!
I hope you can use some of these tips to help you this summer to live a vegan lifestyle :) Just remember why you are doing this and it makes it so much easier!
